This is the most popular artificial birth control method as it has almost a 100% success rate and is the most convenient. Birth control pills usually come in packs that have 21 tablets, wherein you must take one regularly till the whole pack is consumed. Each tablet contains two female hormones, namely oestrogen and progestogen. These two hormones work by stopping ovulation or production of an egg. It makes the lining of the womb thinner to make it less receptive to an egg. It also inhibits the movement of sperm as the hormones thickens the secretions around the cervix.

A mini pill

For those who cannot take regular pills because of health reasons or do not want any of its side effects, use mini-Pills. It contains only one hormone instead of two, which is progestogen that does not cause any side effect. Although mini-Pills are safer than regular ones, it is also less effective and there are no breaks, meaning you have to take it everyday and at exactly the same time of the day.
