Sex Education Worldwide

Sex education was not really a main concern for countries outside of Western Europe and the United States. In fact, people from those countries had no clue what it was all about. But this ignorance and unmindful attitude began to take a turn when growing concerns on over a population and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases especially AIDS became imminent. This is when international organizations like the United Nations stepped in and started to propagate sex education around the world especially in Africa and South Asia. People there was taught mainly about contraception and prophylaxis.

Undoubtedly, there was a struggle for the acceptance of this new concept both by the people and the government. The main opposition were religious groups who condemned contraceptives as immoral. Some governments were also unwilling to accept this innovative idea not only because of the pressure from their religious community but also because they do not want their leadership to be criticized. They do not want to admit the embarrassing fact that they were not able to control and address these things on their own.
